Lion Doug has been a Nevada City Lion since the fall of 1990. He has received a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow Award, several Lions Education Foundation and Northern California Lions Sight Association (NCLSA) awards and club Lion of the Year. He has served as Club Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, President, Sierra Zone Chair (three times), Golden Empire Zone Chair,   Donner Region Chair (three times), District Treasurer in 2008-2009 under PDG Cathy Garcia, District Bulletin Editor (twice), as well as serving on the MERLO team. Lion Doug is also the current Chief Financial Officer of NCLSA. Lion Doug received the Donner Region Lion of the Year Award for 2013-14 and received a Multiple District 4 Certificate of Excellence Award presented by PDG Andy Anderson at the 2014 District Convention. Lion Doug also served as District Tail Twister during 2015-16 under IPDG Mike Retzlaff’s Cabinet.

Lion Doug was elected as 2nd Vice District Governor during the District Convention in Reno and is looking forward to many enjoyable years under the leadership of District Governor Kumar Kalagara and 1st Vice District Governor Nick McNicholas.

Lion Doug was raised in the San Francisco East Bay area before moving to the Sierra Foothills at the end of 1980. He retired in 2009 after 47 years in the title and escrow industry. Since retiring, he is active in his local Buick Club as their secretary and co-editor of the car club’s monthly newsletter and finished his sixth year on the Nevada County Grand Jury as Foreperson.

Lion Doug shares his home in Grass Valley, California with his sister, Lion Diana Beer. Lion Diana has been at his side during his Lion’s career at both the local club level and during his various responsibilities at the District level.
